Mondsee | 27.08.2010
I had probably my strongest race this season last weekend in Mondsee. With an extremely beautiful
scenery and race course and a very strong start field, I finished fifth overall and first in the 23-and-under
category with a time of 1:55:32.

Pictures will follow as soon as I find them to upload them (together with some WCS impressions form Kitzbühel).

Ferlacher Volkstriathlon | 12.08.2010
My 9th triathlon this season took place last Saturday in Ferlach/Rosental. Although it was only
an "improved sprint distance" I had some doubts if my body was already fully regenerated from the OD
in Zell the week before.

For the first time in many years this "Carinthian Classic Triathlon" was organzied as a drafting race,
which was the reason why I was really annoyed about my 12 second deficit after the swim.

With no chance of catching the two guys in front I brought my solid third place to the finish line.

OD Zell am See | 01.08.2010
Yesterday I had the opportunity to start at the Olympic distance triathlon in Zell am See which was – alongside with the
beautiful scenery of Salzburg – quite well organized and had some popular names in the start list. Apart from the strong
Austrian delegation, many foreign starters signed up, including the national team of Korea.

Personally, I had a real good race from the beginning, losing only three minutes in the water to the Asians, who were
swimming on an absolute world-class level (they have been first out of the water in a few world cups already). The bike split was alright in the
first half but after the turning point and the tough climb in Kaprun I felt that my legs were getting weaker during the way back.

I left T2 on seventh place and held this position until the finish line with a great feeling and fast time on the run.

Considering the start list, I’m very happy with rank 7 in a time of 02:02:07 (swim and bike course were slightly longer
than usual) and am looking forward to my next start in Salzburg (Mondsee) in a few weeks.

The first place went to Wihlidal Nikolaus followed by Hollaus Lukas and Min-Ho Heo.

The Empire strikes back | 02.07.2010
First place in 2008, second place in 2009, very strong competitiors in 2010. The UPC Company Triathlon Challenge
in Klagenfurt with the (reloaded) distances of 380m swim, 18k bike and 4.2k run takes place every year three days
before the Ironman Austria and is usually a very prestigious event.

As usual I entered the competition together with Christoph Lorber and Thomas Jandl under the name "Ingenieurbüro
Herbert Michl Racing Team". In the run up to the race we had some discussions and decided - considering the results of
last year - to change the formation of our team slightly.

The gun went off on 18:30 in the afternoon, with 179 relay teams and 89 single starter jumping into the Wörthersee.
The hunt was on.

Christoph, now being responsible for the opening leg, had a very solid swim and was able to pass over a third place only
15 seconds behind the swim experts after T1. On the bike Tommy did what he could, worked very well and especially
made up valuable time with two incredible fast transitions.

As I began the running leg on second position exactly 1:14 behind, almost nobody believed in victory anymore.
Nevertheless I started out as if there was no tomorrow and - checking my watch at the turning point - saw that the gap
melted down to 40 seconds after 2k.

The way back became longer and longer and going into the last kilometer I saw a blurry figure in the distance for the first
time and knew that it was going to be extremely close. Lactate was almost dripping out of both ears as I entered the
last 300m with uncountable "you can do it" and "that will work" calls coming from all sides.

I passed the guy from the other team with less than hundred meters to go and crossed the finish line in a time of 42:45
for the whole relay. Victory was ours again.

Thanks to my two buddies, our sponsor Ing. Herbert Michl and especially to everyone who cheered for us on the course.

Early season problems | 02.06.2010
With two weeks to go until the Austrian Championships I actually feel really, really good in training
and the swim and run splits are as fast as never before, but somehow it doesn't seem to work in a
competition yet.

I started my first "real" triathlon on Saturday in Pörtschach over the sprint distance and
felt like there was something missing in all three disciplines. Finished 5th with more than two minutes
behind the winner.

I'm not giving up just yet as I know that I got much better performances in me and I will train
even harder and try to stay completely focused.
