Status update | 08.06.2009 |
After two more or less "average" competitions in early May, I layed racing aside for a
while and focused mostly on training for the Austrian championships next
saturday. Primarily it was planned to increase
the intensity bit by bit
for a period of three weeks, followed by a 5-6 day tapering phase right before the
competition.
Unfortunately I got sick right at the beginning and missed about 3-4 key sessions.
With only two "normal" training weeks left I concentrated on keeping up the quality
for every single workout, which worked out quite well. Now I'm feeling fine (and exhausted)
again and hope that the lack of competitions won't have an effect on my performance
next week.

Wolfsberg Triathlon | 08.05.2009 |
The past week has been pretty unexciting with lots of regenerative training, but tomorrow
afternoon it's time for the first "preparation competition" for this year's austrian championships.
Distances will be 750m swim (50m pool), 18km bike and 5km run. |

Day 3 - Run | 04.05.2009 |
There are three letters, which are the nightmare of every competitive
athlete - DNF. Sadly they stood right behind my name on the final result table
of this year's Days of Truth.
I still felt very good right before the event yesterday and was optimistic to
run the fastest time on the 10 kilometres. My tactic was mostly "all or nothing",
which means that I started out for a time of 34:00. I realized pretty soon, that I
still got the time trial in my legs, so I adjusted the whole thing for an approximated time of 34:30.
After 5k I was exactly in plan (17:15) and kilometres six and seven were
not bad either. At about 7,2 kilometres (muscles still feeling relatively good)
I suddenly felt an extremely intense pain on the right side of my abdominal
area and had to stop immediatly. It was most likely a nerve, which got
pinched (never had anything like that before) - but the race was over
for me.
Now, one day later, I'm not that disappointed overall - I made big time
improvements in the swim and the bike and know that I'm capable
of running the 10k in about 34:30.
I'll just make it better next time ;-) |

Day 2 - Bike | 04.05.2009 |
You know, an almost 40k time-trial itself is usally a very hard and painful
event. If you do it on a course with more than 300 metres altitude it gets
even harder, but if there's additionally a strong wind like today, you feel
like all odds are against you.
Despite those facts, the not-so-great-feeling in the training and very
strong competitors I did unusually well in todays second event of the Days
of Truth. The time (56:04) was about one minute faster than last year (57:06)
and my legs didn't feel so bad afterall.
Let's see what the run will bring! |
